First Friday ArtWalk details for April 2nd:
#1 Imagine Gallery –35 E 8th
During the month of April, Imagine Gallery presents "Botanical Beauties" by Tara Kemp. Kemp mainly uses pastel pencils to create her opulently colored flowers. She states, "This floral series began one dreary November day several years ago when the camellia in my backyard bloomed earlier than ever. I needed some relief from the dark wet winter of the Pacific Northwest and wanted to capture that brilliant display." Speaking generally about the flowers on her porch, she elaborates, "I admire their often symmetrical beauty. The layers of petals and shades of rich colorform a mandala that draws me in." Tara Kemp is also the owner of Kemp Design in Eugene. In her free time, she loves to paint and perform with her husband, David Andersen, in two musical groups, Red Pajamas & Accordions Anonymous. Imagine Gallery also has new oil paintings by Abbas Darabi and Sarah Sedwick, and new multi-media originals by Catherine Imo.
#2 Goldworks Jewelry Art Studio -169 E Broadway
Since having graduated from the University of Oregon in 2007 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, Autumn Tomlinson has found the inner world of conflict to be an intriguing place from which to draw inspiration. Through her eyes, this "world" appears to be in constant flux and for one to forage within it, the need for adaptability is ever-present. Consequently, Autumn’s recent work is an investigation focused on this idea of adaptation in regards to intimate relationships. Through the combined use of graphite and printmaking techniques, she has set out to illustrate the awkward beauty that arises from such a subtle, and yet dynamic, subject.
#3 Passionflower Design - 128 E Broadway
Passionflower Design is pleased to present "Poems in Clay" by Katie Swenson. Katie is a Eugene native best known for her delicate hand-fashioned porcelain pieces featuring birds, flowers, fairies, rabbits, and other harbingers of spring. Her work is multi-layered – it tells stories and often features hidden words and other secrets. Passionflower Design will show old favorites, plus a collection of the latest work from this artist who is always pushing and exploringthe limits of her medium. You will find that special gift for Easter, a new baby, or a special birthday. The show opens Friday, April 2ndand runs through Wednesday April 14th.
#4 The New Zone Gallery - 164 W Broadway
